This
has been a relatively quiet week. We are
preparing for the Exodus Commemoration on Feb. 2nd, but other than
that, things haven’t been very busy.
There are very few guests in town, everyone has gone back to work and
school. As a mission we have been working on providing service in the community and that has been a blessing to us and to those who are the recipients. We also have had the chance to have one of the Family Search missionaries teach classes on the ins and outs of Family Search. If you haven't checked out the newest Ordinances Ready feature you're missing out! Now there are no excuses not to take your own family name to the temple :0)
We had a nice snowstorm on
Friday night that lasted until Saturday evening. It dropped about ten inches of snow. As a result of the snow accumulation, and the
fact that there was only one operating snow plow in Nauvoo, the roads didn’t
really get plowed. It was decided that
there would be no church on Sunday and that the historic sites would be
closed. Now that was a strange thing to
me. Church cancelled? I’ve been
listening to the “Saints” book and am at the part about them being driven from
Missouri in the middle of winter. Would
those saints let a little snow keep them from attending church and partaking of
the sacrament? I don’t think so! It all makes me think about what’s important
to me and what kinds of things would keep me from doing what I should be doing,
if that makes sense.
Scott
and I are excited to begin the new Come Follow Me study program. We spend time each morning studying together
anyways, so this will help us focus our study.
I love the New Testament and the
stories of Christ. But the studying
isn’t what’s going to change me, make me a better person and bring me closer to
the Savior. I need to DO something with
what I learn. Learning and then just
sitting on that knowledge is a waste.
How will I serve better? What can
I do to be a better missionary and represent Him? How will I love better? What
will I do today to lift someone? That’s
just my own perspective.
The snowstorm made for some great Nauvoo pictures:

It has been such a blessing to have the temple open again. Wednesday night we spent the evening there, doing work for family names. |
