Since we finished up Preach My Gospel training on Friday the 6th, we had our Visitor Center training the following Monday and Tuesday. Elder Ron & Sister Anne Hawkins were our teachers and they were the best. We ended classes on Tuesday afternoon and went home to finish packing. We left early Wednesday morning and drove to Sidney, Nebraska and then Thursday on to Des Moines, Iowa and arrived in Nauvoo on Friday the 13th. Fortunately, no bad luck followed us the day we arrived :0).
Thankfully we had Friday to unload and unpack everything, go grocery shopping and work on getting the house set up. We are staying at the Winslow Farr home, which is a pioneer home built in 1843. It’s actually very nice; two bedrooms and a bathroom upstairs, a nice kitchen and living room on the main floor and a washer and dryer in the basement. The only thing lacking is a dishwasher (however, Scott is my dishwasher).
Since we weren’t available for a regular orientation on Friday morning, Saturday morning we had the opportunity to have breakfast at Pres. & Sis. Lusvardi’s home along with Chad & Karla Munns. Elder Munns is one of the teamsters. Pres. Lusvardi told us a bit about the mission and our schedule for the next two days. We will attend regular church meetings on Sunday and then on Monday have our orientation, go through some of the historic sites, I’ll go to the sewing room to get fitted for my pioneer dresses (Yippee! That's a tongue in cheek yippee.) and in the afternoon we'll receive some mission training. Then the work begins!
It has been nice to have a bit of time to get situated in our new home. Once Monday comes there will be little time to do any of that. I am a bit anxious about this coming week and all that we will have to learn. I guess this is what faith looks like, stepping into the unknown, yet knowing that we will be blessed. This is when I rely on a quote by Pres. Howard W. Hunter, “The Lord loves, more than anything else, an unwavering determination to obey His counsel.”
Here are a few pictures from our last days at the MTC and our arrival in Nauvoo.
