The last two days have been filled with a crash course in Preach
My Gospel. We start each day with our district at 8:00 am and study until
noon, have lunch and then go again from 1:00-4:30. After class we
have dinner and then have the evening to study, go to the temple or do whatever
we’d like. There is so much information in Preach My Gospel that it's hard to
cover much in the few days we have here. It really could be a teaching manual
for every teacher in the church.
I had heard stories about the food at the MTC and my only
complaint is that there are so many choices! I haven’t eaten
anything here that didn’t taste great. There are plenty of the
basics like cereal, chocolate milk, potato bar, salads, desserts
etc. Each night for dinner there are at least three choices. So, any
missionary that goes hungry at the MTC only has himself to blame! And any
missionary that gains 20 lbs only has herself to blame :0)
Thursday, we went over to the two new buildings on the south end
of campus to see the murals and paintings. Light. That’s
what it’s all about. The murals are amazing scenes from the
scriptures. They are backlit, so the images really come to
life. I think my favorite ones were of Esther and
Martha. I hope I can always be as courageous as Esther, and I fear I have a little too much Martha in me.
One thing I have really enjoyed about being here at the MTC is
meeting so many amazing senior couples. I am the youngest one here by
far. I think we're the only ones here without grandkids.
But I have learned so much from the people we have met. Many of these couples have
served multiple missions and just thoroughly enjoy being of service. They
know they could have bought a motor home and traveled around the country seeing
the sights, but instead they have chosen to make a difference for others and do
some good. They really are an inspiration to me.
